Australia, Don’t Buy the Lies!

Breaking news: John Howard vows to hold a referendum if re-elected to formally recognize Indigenous Australians in our Constitution.
This from the man who cannot apologise…
John really hopes we all have short memories, but I don’t. I remember the referendum on whether Australia should become a republic, in which he manipulated the terminology so that the type of republic we were voting for or against was by no means palatable to even the staunchest anti-monarchist.
This from the man who was Prime Minister when the Tent Embassy on the lawns of Parliament House in Canberra was pulled down, and its ceremonial fires extinguished.
This from the man who is becoming the new “Mr Devil”, who in a return to paternalism, will impose physical checks on Indigenous children in the Northern Territory to ascertain whether or not they have been sexually abused. If they hadn’t been violated to this point, they certainly will feel as though they have after such humiliation.
He declared this situation of widespread abuse as “our Katrina”, defending his friend George W by saying we can’t judge the Americans for their slowness to act if we don’t intervene in the NT communities. His statements on this issue indicate to me that John must have been listening to “Grand National” on those morning walks; his conscience being pricked by John Butler’s question, “Do you really think that the Gov would do nothing if all those people were white?” I’m certain John Butler would be mortified to think his challenging lyrics have been used for such potentially disasterous policy.
This from the man whose lethargic action on children in detention has the potential to create a new Stolen Generation situation in the psyche of generations of refugee communities. This from the man who only days ago allowed one of his ministers announce that Australia would no longer accept African immigrants, because a couple of Sudanese guys have allegedly formed a gang and terrorized a liquor shop owner. This from the man who once declared, “We will decide who comes to our shores, and under what circumstances they come!”
This from the man who up until a few months ago denied the science and evidence of Climate Change, and who continues to sign the Kyoto Protocol.
He really is an evil, calculating person, who deserves to be thoroughly routed at the impending election. He is a pathological liar.
This nation should be ashamed, that they have re-elected and allowed themselves to be sucked into the lies, often through bribery in the form of cheques in the mail in the lead-up to polling days, of this evil despot who cannot even muster the diplomacy to congratulate, in a manner befitting a world leader, the victors of the last Rugby World Cup Final, because they were not the Wallabies. Surely such a monarchist could be more gracious towards the Queen’s victors? This from the man who would not use his position to stop a Cricket Tour, saying politics had no place in deciding if the Aussie Cricketers should go to Zimbabwe last year, and whether a tour would be seen as condoning Robert Mugabe’s regime; yet in the National Press Club Sky Channel broadcast to churches a few months ago stressed that he felt Mugabe was an evil leader who should be called into account. Perhaps he felt, when his own pleasure in watching sport was not jeopardized, that it was safe to finally call the kettle black. And history implies Howard wouldn’t like to think of himself as the pot, due to its hue.
To those who will vote in this election, I emplore you to look at the record we have of lies, inconsistencies, and abuses of power that have been the legacy of John Howard’s reign as PM. It doesn’t matter if your budget is in surplus, if this is because you clasp the purse tightly until you need to bribe the naughty children, to stop them throwing tantrums over not getting what they want or need. Don’t be seduced by the sweeteners. If Howard gets re-elected, we will be the national equivalent of Paris Hilton; vacuous, immoral, uneducated, self-interested, yet impoverished in all the things that matter; decency, morality, empathy, and completely devoid of self-respect.
Stay tuned for more ranting on why Howard needs to go…

He is not favorite person either.

Clean Green Neen
When I see him from the Ladies Stand at the SCG in summer, going to fawn over the cricketers in their dressing room, it is God's Spirit at work in me that makes me turn away, rather than hurl abuse or spit. My natural inclination would probably get me kicked out, arrested, or given an ASIO file.
