Not only for his cricketing prowess, but because of his amusing nature.
We know Clarke thanked his recently ex-fiance for her support of his career, when he scored his century. I'm not sure I'd be flattered by a very public declaration by my husband, that he would play much better cricket if he wasn't married to me, but clearly, Clarke and Bingle are a different breed.
However, Dougie's a more modest, focused sort of character. He gives credit where it's due, and is loyal and loving to the ones who really contribute to his success. No kisses to the crowd, or secret symbolic messages to his wife. No, Doug kisssed the logo on his shirt. It's the ACB he can thank for his success.

according to Cricinfo, Doug went to plant one on the team logo on his shirt, but missed.
Instead, his first kiss was bestowed on the VB logo!
