Clarke pulls up stumps as Bingle becomes a car wreck.

It has been like witnessing a slow car crash, caused by youthful exuberance and lack of judgement. But according to Channel Nine (big surprise, seeing they seemed to be there right from the start, manufacturing the scenarios in which the young lass was thrown into the path of sport stars), Michael Clarke has called off his engagement with Lara Bingle.
It is always sad when a relationship ends, but better now than after marriage, when children may be part of the mix.
Really Long Link
There have been many interesting commentaries on this issue. Because Clarke has been touted as Ricky Ponting's heir appparent, it has become a matter of national interest. However it has been impossible to miss this drama, as much of it has been played out very publically, in full view of camera phones as well as paparazzi's intrusive zoom lenses.
Yet the media has also been courted by the pair, but particularly Lara. Her photo shoot with Woman's Day magazine shows a young lady very at ease with the camera, and able to forget her woes long enough to pose prettily and cash the cheque. If Women's Day did pay Lara $200K for her story, she will have come out of the relationship about even, as the price tag on the ring Clarke gave her was in the same ball park.
Really Long Link
(Interestingly, the slo-mo footage of Lara's photo shoot for the mag has been dropped from their website this morning, though it was there late last night).
The poor, silly, self-obsessed pair. I hope they both learn and grow from this situation, and choose discretion over notoriety and wealth in their next relationships.
