Colin Firth plays Arsenal Fan whilst Female Lament Reaches Fever Pitch.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that women will go to any film with Colin Firth in it. Even that dodgy one where he chooses Heather Graham over Minnie Driver. However there were tears in the cinema today as the one and only Mr Darcy chose a Bingley over Lizzie Bennett.
Finally, weeks after its release, I went and saw "Mamma Mia". And there was Colin in comic clutsy mode a la "Love Actually", where he dived into the pond to save his manuscript. He was all three piece suited, immaculate and broad shouldered, as we like him, but with a hopeless, hapless air about him.
However as the plot thickened, we discover his character is... scoring own goals, for want of a better term. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My friend and I cried with horror as the last bastion of well-behaved British romantic heroes danced and frolicked, sans shirt. This in a scene where everyone else was in wet shirts. Darcy... er, Colin, however, had stripped off his famous wet shirt to frolic topless with another bloke on a Greek island. A small mercy. We were grateful the producers deemed it necessary to separate his wet-shirted, utterly heterosexual roles with this mincing shirtless man-hugging one. We even found his lycra-clad ABBA tribute at the end of the film highly amusing. However we hope to never have to grieve over Darcy batting for the other side again. That's just not cricket...
