If I ever were to buy John Howard a present...

and I’d really, really love to give him a retirement gift…, it would be this.
Really Long Link
For those of us, like John, who have only recently acknowledged that Global Warming actually exists, this is the perfect desktop accessory. Or for those like my local member, Danna Vale, who believes Global Warming isn’t man-made (because she read some evidence that says other planets are warming up too… begs the question which of those other planets is she from?!), this is a visual reminder of what is the planet’s future if we don’t curb our Greenhouse Gas Emissions. Coastlines literally disappear before your eyes.
The headlines are full of plans to rescue struggling farmers from the effects of the drought. Cash incentives to leave the land if the farms look unviable are offered. This is great for farmers whose other option might be self-harm, from the despair they daily face.
However I can’t understand why the connection is not made by those who govern that there is such a thing as cause and effect. If we city folk continue to fuel our lifestyles with non-renewable, CO2 emitting energy sources; wash our cars and green our gardens with dam water; poison ourselves and the land with chemicals and pesticides; and allow our governments to not set targets to reduce energy use and emissions, then what can we expect but a drier, less fruitful continent.
Will we only understand this when we have no local produce on our tables? Or will it take no produce at all? We cannot eat money.
Having said this, I’m about to shut down the computer, switch off the A/C, and wrap a wet cloth around my neck to keep cool, whilst I Enjo the house. And whilst I’m at it, I might do something about the log in my eye…
PS:
Please post your energy-saving ideas here, and link your friends and family to this site.
Thanks to DuskDevi’s very entertaining blog for the link to the SunLamp site, where I discovered this “mug for the mugs”. Dusk, take a leaf out of my book and print up a “Bring Back Bernie” shirt ASAP!

QUOTE ME NO QUOTES!
nice to blog you...err....whatever!
Now this is an interesting proposition...what to give little Johnny boy as a retirement pressie...
for me there are two categories, legal and illegal...the legal pressie...a large ship's anchor, with rope, and directions to the nearest dock...oh and a knot tying handbook...maybe just with noose in it...and the illegal pressie...well....the mind boggles...a large jump suit with a South American electric eel sewn into it...ebola virus...any old flesh eating bug....the list goes on...
As for global warming....it is already too late frankly. It does not matter a hoot what we do now...we are WAY past that point of no return. What we have to do now is prepare as best we can for the change, and try and save as many lives as we can...train everyone how to be subsistance farmers on a small local scale....stuff like that.
cheers
