It's easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle...

than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
These were some of Jesus' words. Why? What's wrong with being rich? Nothing, unless it becomes the centre of your Universe. If money is what motivates you, you are stuffed, basically. This is what Jesus was trying to get across to the rich man, and his own disciples when he made this remark.
See, the rich man asked Jesus what he should do to get eternal life. He thought he was okay wih God, because he had "kept all the commandments" (as if) since he was a child. Jesus, knowing full well what was in the bloke's heart and mind, suggested he then sell all he had and give the money to the poor. Away the guy went, head hanging down.
Jesus then made the famous remark, and his disciples despaired. "Who then can be saved?"
Jesus said, "With man, things are impossible, but for God, all things are possible".
Jesus taught that if you want eternal life, all you have to do is believe in him as your Lord and Saviour. He is the way, the truth and the life. You can't get to God except through him. It wasn't the money that prevented the rich man receiving eternal life, but the fact that he was not prepared to trust Jesus above all else, and therefore demonstrate this trust in Jesus by doing what he said. He loved money more than God.
Here is a link that gives you the chance to see three accounts of this incident. Read the accounts "in context" to understand the point Jesus was making.

Clearly, this is the issue facing the protagonist in this Herald article.

The love of money has clearly been the root of all evil in this person's life... so deeply rooted that he took advantage of an old lady's dementia in a desire to gain wealth.
May he wake up to himself, repent, feel the full impact of God's grace and forgiveness, and make amends to those he has rorted.
May those peddling the "Prosperity Gospel" do likewise. They are leading people astray and entrapping them. God doesn't necessarily want "you to be rich". He works through ALL THINGS for our good. This can include hard times.
Consider the birds, people.

You're worth so much more to God than them.
