Put two and two together

Breaking news: HPV causes throat cancer, and binge drinking puts people in hospital.
To me, those facts aren't rocket surgery. Clearly, if you can get herpes as cold sores and as genital warts, and if those warts can lead to cervical cancer, then its fairly likely that exposing your throat to someone with HPV will lead to you suffering.
Add to that excessive alcohol consumption; probably the major cause of sexual activity of any variety, and what you get is people putting themselves at risk.
Let's face it. Girls seem to suffer more if they contract a STI. Whether it's lost fertility through scarring in their uterus and fallopian tubes, or through hysterectomies required to remove cancer riddled organs, without which conceiving or carrying a baby to term is impossible, sexual activity costs women greatly.
However this would be reduced with abstinence, which would be easier if resolve was not weakened by alcohol. No matter how sensible a girl can be when sober, cause and effect is not in the forefront of a drunken girl's mind, and the best laid plans for self-control, in light of the risks to her health, may be forgotten.
As it takes two to tango, and as alcohol can increase agression in males, coercion and assault can occur. Drinking to excess is risky business, with consequences that can endure for a lifetime.
Many young girls seem to think that the way around the health and pregnancy risks is to engage in other sexual activity. Oral sex to this generation is like the handshake of yesteryear in many circles. It is not seen as out of the ordinary, and is not seen as unsafe. However this new evidence debunks that theory. Whilst the introduction of the HPV virus may protect a girl from throat and cervical cancer, it should be noted that any sexual contact which is not exclusive, for both partners, for life (eg in marriage between two virgins), carries with it health risks.
Now in the era of "Sex and the City" and "Bridget Jones", this may sound a bit old fashioned. However, Carrie gets shafted at the alter, and Bridget ends up having Daniel Cleaver's baby. Two foolish fictional women whose reproductive health we are unaware of, but whose lives have not been enhanced by their promiscuity. They have given much, with nothing to show for it.
