With World Youth Day coming up, the Catholic church is starting to be concerned about "The Chaser" stealing their thunder. However, how could they top the APEC stunt? "He's not the Osama, he's a very naughty boy" was emblazoned on my shirt after that crowd-pleaser, but Monty Python have beat me to the punchline on the only way to better the last great Chaser stunt:
Pretending to be the second coming of Jesus.
However, I think the ABC's budget for special effects may not enable the stunt to come up to scratch compared to the resources God can draw on for that great day!
On that point, was I the only one wondering if the horse flu was the horse racing industries answer to the twelve plagues of Egypt? The Pope said, "Let my people go... to Randwick", the AJC said "No!!!", and then snot came out of horses' nostrils, crippling this arm of the gambling industry for months...? God has such a sense of humour. When 89 year old Sarah thought it was a joke when God told Abraham they would have a baby the next year, she cracked up. Then they had to name the baby Isaac, whih means "laughter".
That said, I think the Chaser boys would be asking for it if they did try a stunt at WYD. They might not go to gaol, but their atheism might get a bit challenged when God smites them, or sends the real Messiah, whichever happens first.
